Im Vordergrund des Buches stehen die Themen Anschaffung, Verhalten im Terrarium, Terrarieneinrichtung und -technik, Ernährung, sowie Pflege und Vermehrung von Kornnattern. Daneben beschäftigt sich das Buch mit Grundlagen der Morphologie, Taxonomie und dem natürlichen Lebensraum der Tiere. Das Buch stellt die Ergänzung um Grundlagen zum spezialisierten Buch "Farb- und Zeichnungsvarianten der Kornnatter" dar.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende:
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Glaß, geboren 1983 und aufgewachsen in Klingenthal/Vogtland, ist Professor für Informatik an der Universität Ulm. Nach vielen Jahren der Zucht von Kornnatterfarbvarianten und Neukaledonischen Riesengeckos hat sich sein Interesse von der Terraristik auf die Naturfotografie verlagert.
Daniel Bohle, geboren 1975, ist diplomierter Maschinenbauer und lebt in Berlin. Bereits 1986 bekam er seine erste Kornnatter und züchtete seit Ende der 1990er Jahre Farbvarianten. Heute beschäftigt er sich vor allem mit dem Schutz der heimischen Kreuzottern.
Michael Glaß und Daniel Bohle arbeiteten bereits als Autoren, Fotografen und Fachlektoren für verschiedene Verlage und teilen vor allem ihr Interesse an der Naturfotografie und der Feldherpetologie, welches sie in Form von zahlreichen gemeinsamen Exkursionen in das europäische Ausland ausleben.
